3. Luxor Temple
Luxor temple is in the heart of the modern city of Luxor along the eastern
banks of the Nile River. The scale and richness of the temples have fascinated travellers for thousands of years. In ancient times, religious processions moved between the Karnak Temple complex and Luxor Temple along the river and a 2.5–kilometer-long paved Avenue of Sphinxes. The earliest structures visible today were erected by the pharaohs Amenhetep III, and Rameses II who were responsible for most of the temple’s huge colonnades and courts. Christine’s beautifully illustrated lecture offers a comprehensive introduction to this remarkable archaeological site. The talk is fully illustrated with contemporary colour images. |
