15. The Statue of Liberty
When the last extensive restoration of the Statue of Liberty was about to begin Christine Roussel was asked to help solve some of the technical problems on the seriously deteriorated statue. Over the next two years her company worked on many aspects of the extensive restoration. This gave her a unique opportunity to examine and be part of the team that restored this American icon. Christine’s talk includes the statues’ history beginning with its French designer Frederic-Auguste Bartoldi, its construction in both Paris and New York, its’ various uses and past restorations, and the most recent comprehensive restoration. It is a privileged insiders’ view of this national monument. Both archival and contemporary photos illustrate the talk. |
